Introduction
Hydroelectric Power is water that can be turned into electricity. In case you are wondering it is a renewable
resource. This is how it works, the water is moved out of a dam and into a tube. Then the water is poured out on a
turbine which makes the turbine rotate. The turbine is attached to a long metal rod called a generator. As the turbine
rotates, the metal rod spins, which creates electricity. Then the generator delivers it to houses.

Pros and Cons
Some cons about this type of power is some places don't have enough water to create electricity. Another con is that it can kill
migrating fish . But we have some was to prevent this con. We can build a passage for the fish. One pro is that it doesn't use fossil
fuels. This is a really important pro because if we use all of our fossil fuels we wont have any electricity.

Environmental Impact
If the dam breaks completely , the water behind it will go every where and flood and destroy many habitats. Like in
Cost
It cost 1050-8000 dollars to build it and it cost 1-6 dollars to run it. The running cost is really cheep because it doesn't need any
fancy fuels to run.

Current News
On 12th of February 2017 the California dam was on the edge of breaking . All of the police wanted everybody to evacuate because if
the whole thing burst it could flood the city and the cities around it. In Iran , the Mosul dam was built poorly and is on the edge of
bursting. If it does burst it could kill 1 million to 4 million people in its path.

Fun Facts
Some fun facts are 1/5 of the world's energy comes this way, some places plant dams in areas to get more electricity, it has no air
pollution, the larger the mass of the water contained by the dam the greater the speed it will travel and produce more energy, and
places where there are rivers and mountains the better water power it will create.
